  • The festival will feature 20 film programs over the course of the weekend, including a combination of features and shorts.

Additionally, the festival will host 6 panels and workshops for filmmakers, climate professionals, and general audiences about the impacts of climate storytelling, ways to develop new climate narratives, how to green your production, and more.

Finally, the festival will feature a Solutions Hub, where attendees can gather for complimentary coffee and snacks and learn from groups doing on-the-ground work to build a better future.

  • CFF is open to the public, and you don't need to be a climate expert to engage with and enjoy the festival! The films at CFF stand on their own: they're engaging, inspiring, and will stick with you long after you've left the theater.

Whether you're a long-time New Yorker or a first-time visitor, a student or climate professional, we invite you to come discover some of the most relevant, impactful cinema being made today.

  • The Climate Film Festival ran an open call for films from February through June 2024, receiving over 300 submissions. Each submission was reviewed by a volunteer team of 23 screeners, who evaluated films using a shared rubric. From the top scorers, our programming team has selected the finalists, which will be shown in NYC during the festival from September 20th to 22nd.

  • The Climate Film Festival is a new cultural organization in NYC, with year-round programming and an annual festival. CFF began in 2023, and the inaugural flagship festival will take place in September 2024.

In addition to the September festival, CFF organize year-round partner programs, bringing film to existing organizations that work on climate. In its first operational year, CFF ran partner programs with NYU's Climate Justice and Health Lab, WE ACT for Environmental Justice, Asia Society, Rethink Food, the Climate Psychology Alliance, and more.

  • CFF was founded in 2023 by Alec Turnbull and J. English Cook, along with a team of 13 founding volunteers coming from backgrounds in film, energy, policy, AI, academia, and more. To date, CFF has been a 100% volunteer run organization, reliant on a growing network of volunteers and supporters to create a new space for climate cinema.
