CFF partnered with Rethink Food and the Ceres Food Film Festival for an intimate evening focused on urban agriculture, climate resilience, and food systems, including a screening of the award-winning documentary short Keeper (2024, dir. Hannah Rafkin) and a panel discussion. The evening also featured Boogie Down Bronx Honey (featured in the film), upcycled light bites curated by Rethink Food’s culinary team, and boutique Portuguese wine by NLC Wines.
A lively, engaged panel discussion included insights from: Hannah Rafkin (Director, Keeper); Sean Malik Flynn (Lead, Keeper); Alaura Flynn (Lead, Keeper); and moderator Jennifer Berg (Chair, NYU Department of Nutrition and Food Studies).
About the Film:
For Flynn, a single father and empty nester in the Bronx, beekeeping is a source of calm, wisdom, and healing. Undeterred by his severe allergy to bee stings, he cares for colonies all across New York City—including four hives inside his apartment. When a cancer diagnosis threatens Flynn's life, he's forced to step away from the bees and accept the care of his 19-year old daughter Alaura, preparing her to continue living powerfully—with or without him.
Keeper is a 2025 Academy Award Shortlisted Film and a Gold Medalist Winner of the 2024 Student Academy Award.
